Commissioner for Narcotics meets Macao's social welfare head

Commissioner for Narcotics, Mrs Rosanna Ure, this morning (May 7) met the President of the Social Welfare Institute of the Government of Macao Special Administrative Region, Mr Ip Peng Kin, who led a delegation to visit the newly-built Hong Kong Jockey Club Drug InfoCentre (DIC).

During a tour of the DIC, Mrs Ure briefed the delegation on the services offered by the centre and explained its background and exhibits. She also updated Mr Ip on Hong Kong's anti-drug preventive education and publicity activities as well as developments in treatment and rehabilitation services.

The Commissioner told the delegation that the DIC was the first exhibition centre dedicated to drug education in Hong Kong. She said it was designed to convey anti-drug messages and information in an interactive and interesting way. It will be a platform for teachers, parents and anti-drug workers to join in the battle against drug abuse.

While exchanging views and sharing experience with the delegation in drug-related matters, Mrs Ure said she looked forward to more collaboration between Hong Kong and Macao in the future.

Other senior officials of the Macao delegation included: Head of Department for Prevention and Treatment of Drug Dependent, Miss Celeste Vong Yim Mui; Head of Department for Research and Planning, Miss Cheong Wai Fan; Head of Department for Family and Community Services, Miss Isabel Maria Ho; Head of Division for Prevention of Drug Abuse, Miss Lucilia Hoi Va Pou; Head of Division for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Drug Dependence, Mr Wilson Hon Wai; and Head of Division for Children and Youth, Ms Lao Kit Im.

The DIC is located on the Roof Floor, Low Block, Queensway Government Offices and is scheduled to open to the public next month.
