Dear friends who care about Hong Kong,

Psychotropic substances have replaced heroin as the arch-enemy in our war against drugs. They are a long-term scourge on our young people, gradually but severely stifling the growth of our new generation, and causing fundamental damage to Hong Kong's competitiveness and future.

Established in October 2007, the Task Force on Youth Drug Abuse has been actively examining strategies to combat this increasingly serious problem. The Task Force has kick-started a series of measures in the short and medium term, and will issue a detailed report and recommendations by the end of this year. The Government and the Action Committee Against Narcotics are also joining hands in a two-year territory-wide anti-drug campaign launched in mid-2008.

The Government cannot work alone in the fight against youth drug abuse in an effective and sustainable manner. Drug abuse is often merely one of the many symptoms of the family, growth, learning or career problems faced by young people.

To tackle drug and other youth problems at root, it is essential to mobilise various sectors of the community to foster a caring culture by providing assistance to our young people at different levels, and through innovative ways. In particular, we need you to reach out to those who have so far not been exposed to drugs or are at risk, to show them hope, cheer them up, give them opportunities, and strengthen their resistance to adversity and temptations.

There are many people in Hong Kong who are keen to contribute to this worthy cause and who have the ability to do so. We have provided here different choices tailor-made for your participation. With the ideas and sincerity expressed in this website, we hope to build a platform for you to show your care, to walk side by side, and to build better paths for our young people, thereby contributing to the future of Hong Kong.

We look forward to your active support and participation.
