Anti-drug publicity

The aim of preventive education and publicity is to publicise the harms of drugs using different channels to remind members of the public (in particular young people) to stay away from drugs; and promoting early identification of hidden drug abusers and encouraging early help-seeking. Besides, the Government has all along been implementing PE&P initiatives in schools, including the Healthy School Programme with a drug testing component and the “Beat Drugs with Sports” Programme in secondary schools, through the Beat Drugs Fund.

In 1987, the United Nations General Assembly declared to observe June 26 each year to be the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Member jurisdictions agree to hold large scale anti-drug campaign around the day to disseminate anti-drug message to show their determination to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
