Evidence of Brain Damage in Chronic Ketamine Users – A Brain Imaging Study

The study will examine the evidence of brain damage in a group of chronic ketamine users in Hong Kong. Structural, metabolite and functional abnormalities in the brain and cognitive impairment in chronic ketamine users will be explored.

The grantee seeks to establish a chromatography-based analytical system for the detection of traditional and threatening emerging drugs of abuse. This system will be used for surveillance of drugs of abuse in drug abusers and high-risk individuals.
Drugs Free Life - Prevention Project for Employees

Anti-drug messages will be disseminated to professional drivers, catering industry workers and general public. Exhibitions will be held in public housing estates, shopping centres and industrial areas. Labour unions of professional drivers and workers in catering industry will collaborate with the grantee to organise an anti-drug quiz for drivers and catering worker.

This school-based education programme will elevate students’ sense of self-efficacy and anti-drug awareness through a series of comprehensive multi-media trainings and mentorship scheme. A SMS drug prevention message competition, parent anti-drug education workshops, a mobile phone video clip contest and production of a full-length anti-drug movie under mentorship will be organised in addition to anti-drug singing contest with lyric composition competition.
Parents and Children: United Stand Against Drugs Abuse

This territory-wide project aims to provide comprehensive anti-drug education to lower primary school students and parents. Students will be provided with health and drug education programmes. The grantee will enhance parents’ awareness of youth drug abuse problems and help them conduct drug educations at home by increasing their knowledge and skills to deliver preventive messages.

The grantee will reach out to at-risk youth at night and provide on-spot drug education in small groups. The purpose is to influence the participants’ group norm and encourage them to quit drugs. The grantee will also provide drug counselling in boys’ and girls’ homes / hostels, youth college and probationers in groups.
LiFE CHOICE

To prevent teenage non-users from experimenting with drugs, the grantee will design a new programme to enhance secondary school students’ ability to make right choice. Through participation in a competitive game, student will learn life skills and gain awareness of the consequences of poor decisions in life. Tailor made preventive programme and web-based support will be provided to students, teachers and parents.
Gen-YOU Net
Project Approved in 2010 (R1)
This project targets primary and secondary school students in Tai Po and North District and develops a digital communication channel for young students, which includes a web-portal and a 3D virtual community. The web-portal will incorporate information and online resources for students, teachers, social workers and NGOs, whereas the 3D virtual community will provide an online environment for comfortable sharing between young people and virtual mentors.
